Answer 1

To tell the truth, they only used them for war. Or for even (very rarely) for slaves.

Answer 2

Initially, when the British Colonists arrived, they were in a pitiful situation and dealt with the Native Americans as useful stooges to help them put together a settlement. As the settlements grew, they became increasingly antagonistic towards the Native Americans. There were several campaigns to effectively eliminate Native American tribes (like the Wampanoag in King Philip's War). French Colonists treated the Native tribes with more reverence since they could be effectively used as proxies to fight the British colonists.

In the mid-1700s, there were several campaigns by British colonists against the Native Americans both against the Native Americans as individual tribes and due to their alliances with the French. In the Seven Years War, British colonists passed blankets infected with smallpox to Native Americans as a form of early biological warfare. After the Independence of the United States, the plight of Native Americans only worsened. Many were evicted from their historic lands in the Eastern United States, especially, the South. Andrew Jackson fought several wars against the Seminoles in Florida and as President evicted numerous tribes from the Southern States in what became known as the Trail of Tears.

After the American Civil War, attention was turned to the Great Plains regions and there were numerous acts of violence and subjugation by Americans against the Native Americans resulting in most tribes having limited lands called Reservations and vast portions of their membership reduced. During the late 1890s and 1900s, there was an attempt to rob Native Americans of their culture as well and to integrate them fully into American society. These attempts were ultimately curbed due to increasing awareness of the insensitivity of these projects.

In the middle and late 20th century, Native Americans started to make some small gains and sovereignty, but many Reservations remain the poorest places in America

Horribly.

The Natives were compelled into near-slave-labor in order to produce quotas of gold and silver. Columbus and his successors were incredibly abusive and violent to those who failed to live up to unreachable quotas. Massive numbers of Natives were killed off due to the labor conditions and the diseases that Europeans brought. The Europeans also did not respect Indigenous religions and societies, destroying all of their civilizations. It was not until Bartolomé de las Casas wrote to the Spanish Government and the Catholic church that injunctions against enslavement of Natives were proffered. However, Natives were still abused and vastly underpaid well into the post-colonial period (in many cases up to the 20th century).

The Spanish enslaved and killed many Indians so human rights were not at the top of their priority list.

The Spanish treated the Native Americans very badly. They forced them from their land. They tried to force them to convert to their religion, and killed them if they refused.
