On 2 February 1948 President Harry S. Truman issued an executive order desegregating the Armed Forces of the United States; his order opened all MOS's and combat units to Afro-Americans. Rep A. Philip Randolph bartered the Black votes Truman needed to get elected president for Truman's order to abolish racial segregation in the Armed Forces.
