They should have a makers mark or factory mark on them somewhere. You will need to cross reference the makers mark with the companies history to see what years that particular mark was used. Most craftsmen would change their mark from time to time so you can determine at least which generation or time period an item comes from even if you cannot determine the exact year.
If there is no makers mark you will need to cross reference the pattern or design with the companies catalogs and see what years that design was being manufactured, but you will also need to have it examined for authenticity. Companies that copied someone elses design without permission were just as likely to not have any makers mark as they were to try and forge the mark.
Binoculars
Binoculars are like a pair of telescopes fixed together so there is one for each eye. The distance between them is adjustable for different people and they can be focussed on whatever you are looking at. They are vital for birdwatching, watching horse racing and in the military.
Binoculars are essentially a pair of identical refracting telescopes; they have a large objective lens at the front and a number of smaller lenses to enable an image to be brought into sharp focus. Prisms are used so that larger objective lenses can be used - otherwise they would be limited by the distance between the eyes. The prisms reflect the image through two right angles in the binoculars. The prisms also reverse the inversion that occurs in refracting telescopes.
GENERAL USE Hand-held binoculars range from small 3 × 10 Galilean Opera glasses, used in theaters, to glasses with 7 to 12 diameters magnification and 30 to 50 mm objectives for typical outdoor use. Many tourist attractions have installed pedestal-mounted, coin-operated binoculars to allow visitors to obtain a closer view of the attraction. In the United Kingdom, 20 pence often gives a couple of minutes of operation, and in the United States, one or two quarters gives between one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half minutes.
Almost from the invention of the telescope in the 17th century the advantages of mounting two of them side by side for binocular vision seems to have been explored. The first binocular telescope, consisting of two telescopes placed side by side, was. constructed in 1608 by Johann Lipperhey, the inventor of the ordinary Dutch telescope.
