Toasting is essentially caramelizing and browning the modest amount of sugars and fats in bread. Caramelizing brings out the flavor, so toasted white bread will be more flavorful than untoasted white bread.

Toasted bread is a phenomena, only few can understand. I for one do not. Whilst toasted bread adds crunch, it also gives bread a cardboard texture which takes away the freshness of the product. I am surprised at how many people in our modern world indulge in toast, as it is a remarkable contemporary trend. However i can assure you toasted bread will once more go out of fashion, just as flared jeans and cords once did, however then their is always the risk that those that call themselves "indie" may strike again, and once put their bread through the transformation and derogatory activities of toasting. I would just like to add as a further not of interest that toasted bread is the favourite diet of vegan vampires. They tend to enjoy the crunch of burnt toast the same way they enjoy the crunch of human flesh. On further note toasting also adds uncountable calories to the bread which is why i don't go there!

Yes, it does. For example take bread, untoasted bread tastes different than toasted bread. Same with apples a red apple will taste sweeter than a green apple which will taste more sour.
