Yes. Full strength antifreeze is mostly ethylene glycol, and will burn. The flash point is about 250 degrees, so it won't burn unless it is very warm, or on a warm surface (like an exhaust manifold).

Why did i replace the top radiator hose filled with antifreeze and the engine still smokes?

Because there is antifreeze int he system and it takes a while to burn through. Also replace the bottom hose too. <> If it smokes from under the hood, It has antifreeze on the engine exterior, You can wash it off. Or just drive it and it will burn off. If it smokes from the exhaust, There is engine damage.

Why does your 96 Saturn sl2 burn antifreeze?

No vehicle actually burns antifreeze. If the antifreeze level in your Saturn seems to be going down, it's because of a leak.Possible antifreeze leak locations are:Coolant hoses.Radiator cap.Water pump.Heater core.Head gasket.Cracked head or block.Find out where the leak is occurring and repair it.

What causes your engine to burn antifreeze?

Your car shouldn't "burn" antifreeze. If it actually is "burning" antifreeze then chances are you have a blown/leaking head gasket or possibly a cracked engine block which allows antifreeze to enter the combustion chambers. If your antifreeze is just disappearing then it is probably leaking out from somewhere. Possible leak areas to check out would be the radiator hoses, heater hoses, radiator, water pump, and the heater core. Most of the time if the heater core is leaking you'll be able to smell the antifreeze inside the car while the engine is running and the heater is on.

Is antifreeze combustible?

Antifreeze is composed of mainly ethylene glycol or propylene glycol, both of which are combustible. So yes, antifreeze IS combustible. However, neither of these compounds is very easily ignited. But although it is HIGHLY unlikely that antifreeze could start a fire, antifreeze could be dangerous if it actually gets hot enough to burn (such as in an ongoing structure fire).

Checking antifreeze what should the engine temp be?

just not so hot that you burn yourself. checking before you drive is O.K.

What happens if youput antifreeze in halffull gas tank?

Antifreeze will burn; however, if it's been diluted with water 50/50 (which is how it's used), the engine will not run very well at all and there will be a lot of white smoke from the tailpipe.

What happens if you put antifreeze in the transmission fluid?

If it is an automatic you'll thin out your transmission fluid and burn up your clutch packs and valve body if driven. If it's manual it can make your transmission run hotter and burn up your gears. You should flush it immediately.
