In most circumstances, both names (the person who bought the car as well as the co-signer) will appear on the ownership papers, and/or on the loan for the car. With respect to co-signing a car loan, if one person fails to make the payments, the co-signer is considered liable. I enclose a link about this.

Can a collection agency going after the debt of the cosigner of your auto loan put a lien on your car?

Only if the 'co-signer' also has an ownership interest in the car.

no

If you gat a car with a cosigner and your 17 at the time can you have the car put in your name and get credit for the payments being made when you turn 18?

The terms of the loan are between the bank, and you and your cosigner. To remove the cosigner, the bank would have to agree to pay off the loan and issue a new loan in your name only. Since the value of the car has probably decreased faster than you are paying down the loan, it is unlikely that there is any credit being generated.

Does the credit of the cosigner gets affected if car is not paid?

Oh yes it does. That person put their credit on the line when they signed the contract making me a cosigner.

Can a car be financed in my name but registered in someone else's name?

I think you could only do something like that as a cosigner, because the loan originator will put a lien on the title that will have to be settled before the car can be sold or transferred.

Can someone put you as a cosigner without your signature on a car title?

If a cosigner has been making payments on a car at what point can they legally have the car seized and put in their name?

That would depend on the repossession laws of your state of residency. Or if different, the state where the loan was procured for the vehicle.

Can you get a auto loan but put the car in someone else name?

You can cosign but both names will be on title.

Im a primary borrower on a loan n i had2 have a cosigner to get my car. i have made several payments on my carnthe cosigner had told me tht he had the car sold hes now got the not makein payments?

Something is not right here. If you are the primary, then why is the cosigner making payments and why does the cosigner have possession of the vehicle? The is back-wards of what it should be. And why in the world would you put the cosigners name on the title? You have a mess on your hands, because you went about this all wrong. You need to contact a lawyer ASAP.

I put a down on my car and make all the payments. No credit to go on my own but now the other person is out of my life. How do you remove the primary on an auto loan and add a cosigner?

The only way to get the other persons name of the auto loan is if you finance there another lender. The other finance company pays off the amount left on the existing loan, and then form a new contract soley with you name on it. But what if you don't have the credit to get a loan in your own name?

Can a car be titled in your name but put on someones elses auto insurance?

In the US, no you can not be put in jail. If you want to remove a cosigner from your student loans, then you need to consolidate them in your name alone. You can get help with the consolidation of your loans by clicking on the link at the bottom of this text box.
