water is amphoteric in nature with acid it behaves like base and with base it behaves like acid.

when water is added to the acid it behaves like a base and neutralises it to some extent and thus the pH of acid decreases on adding water.

Answer 2:

When you add water to the acid, you are diluting it and making it weaker therefore the pH will decrease (the value will get closer to 7 on a pH scale).

Yes it does. pH is defined as the -log of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution, or -log[H+]. As you add water to an acid, you are diluting it, thus lowering the concentration of H+. Putting a lower value in for [H+] in the equation -log[H+] will give you a great value than you originally had. This means the pH has increased, making the solution more basic.

The whole point of a buffer is that when a little bit of acid or base is added, the pH does not change significantly.

On addition of concentrated Hydro chloric acid to water does the pH of the acid change?

Yes, pH depends both on the strength of the acid and the concentration. Adding the acid to water will dilute it, creating a solution with a higher pH.

Lower pH by adding muriatic acid.

What would be the pH of the water before adding an acid?

pH of water is 7.0 (meaning neutral)

either use pH paper or a pH meter

Does water change the pH level of vinegar?

no. water just dilutes the acid but the PH will not change unless an acid or alkali is added

The pH is unchanged.

Why would adding an acid or base lower the pH in a solution?

Adding an acid to a solution will lower it's Ph, but adding a base will raise it's Ph.

Would adding distilled water increase the pH of an acid in solution?

yes, any water.

Why does the pH of water decrease when a acid is added?

Acid on the PH scale is from 1 to 6. water being 7 and anything above seven to 14 being a base. Adding an acid with a ph of 1 with water makes it a 3.5 on the ph scale. How?, The acid's H+ or H3O- became less concentrated when water was added.

No

Does adding water change the pH of a base?

Yes. Ph is a measurement of the concentration of the hydronium ion [H+]. If you add more water you change the concentration.
