The normal cycle is 28 days, and this will be from the first day of your period to the first day of the next period give or take a few hours. When you have a period it is your body's way of shedding the unfertilised egg that it produced during the last cycle. 14 days after the first day of your period you will ovulate again so in theory you still have 2 weeks to go before the next period. To have unprotected intercourse after day 10 of your cycle could result in a pregnancy because although you ovulate on day 14, if you have sex from day 10 then the sperm can still be there inside when you ovulate on day 14 and it can fertilse the egg.
