No they don't just feed in the dark. In most story and legions vampires burn in the sun. And in most films they feed in the dark because it gives the appearance of them hiding there shame because most vampires didn't have the choice of becoming a vampire they were given something they never wanted. IE. Twilight characters (excluding Bella and Renesmee) and Vampire diaries- Damon, Stefan and Caroline.
