A veteran is anyone who has served in the military. As far as veteran benefits are concerned, only those who have served at least six months on active duty are eligible for benefits.
An exception would be a reservist who was injured during training.

Not true your statment that if you served 6 months active duty you are considered a vertern. I served 6 months active duty and 5 years active reserve (stateside) i am told i am not considered a veteran.?
