Imperial measurement is omplicated, inconsistent and generally difficult to use. For example, how many inches - or feet, or yards, or furlongs and so on in a mile? Now have a look at how many centimetres - or millimetres, or metres - are in a kilometer. For the first you need a calculator. For the second you simply multiply by tens.

∙ 12y agoThere are no disadvantages or advantages. It is simply a different system of aribitrary measurements with arbitrary demarcation. An ounce is only an ounce because we say so and a gram is only a gram because we say so. When you have 16 ounces you get a pound only because we have decided you do, and when you have 1000 grams you get a kilogram only because we have decided you do.
However, the use of base 10 for the metric system, rather than the complicated 12-3-2-6-10 multiplication, makes different metric units easier to convert.
