During the Warring States period of China, lots of Chinese residents sailed to Japan to escape from their land of fire and blood. They mainly came from Qi State (now in Shandong Province) and Yan State (Beijing, northern Hebei, southern and eastern Liaoning). Both countries are NOT landblocked. According to the relevante legends, it was Xu Fu (a native of the present Shandong Province) that led around thousands of male and female children as well as some persons that own a skill (for example, tailors, warriors etc.). They sailed to Japan aroun 210BC and founded an empire. And the Japanese also recognize Xu Fu as one of their earliest emperors. However, Japanese is not equal to Chinese, though. Many historians believe that modern Japanese is actually a mixture of Chinese migrants and Japanese aborigenes.
