Margaret was sent in 1503 at the age of 14 to marry King James IV of Scotland, a man 16 years her senior. Though not intentionally a love match the two did come to have strong affection for each other. The marriage produced 6 pregnancies but only one child survived infancy-a son, later to be James V of Scotland and father of Mary, Queen of Scots. In 1513 James IV was killed in the Battle of Flodden, by an army lead by his sister-in-law, Catherine of Aragon wife of Margaret's brother King Henry VIII of England. She remained regent for her son, James V, till she married Archibald Douglas, Earl of Angus. They had one child, a daughter named Margaret Douglas, latter Countess of Lennox and mother of Henry, Lord Darnley, husband of Mary, Queen of Scots. Margaret eventually returned to England and was welcomed by her brother. She died in 1541.
Mary was sent by her brother the King to France to marry the King Louis XII in 1514 at the age of 18, her groom 34 years her senior with a daughter only 3 years younger than her. Their marriage only lasted two month because her husband died on New Years Day 1515. She fell in love with her brother's best friend, Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk. The couple married in secret in March, still in France, after begging for forgiveness and paying a heavy fine they were officially married upon their return to England. They had two daughters and a son who survived childhood. One was Lady Francis Brandon who was the mother of the ill-fated 9 day Queen, Lady Jane Grey. Mary died in 1533. Shortly after her death Charles Brandon married their son's fiancée, by whom he had two sons, his other son dying shortly after.
