In the fall of 1954, a teenage Elvis Presley made his first (and only) performance there. Although the public reacted politely to his revolutionary style of rockabilly music, after the show he was told by Opry manager Jim Denny that he ought to return to Memphis to resume his truck-driving career, prompting Elvis to swear to never to return, and he never did.

What was the year that the grand ole opry opened and in what city?

The Grand Ole Opry was started by a man named George Hay (1895-1968) who had formerly hosted WLS's National Barn Dance. When he started working at WSM in 1925, the show was known only as "WSM's Barn Dance." After WSM became a NBC affiliate his show followed a series called "Grand Opera." As the show began one day in December of 1927, Hay reportedly said "for the past hour we have been listening to music taken largely from Grand Opera, but from now on we will present 'The Grand Ole Opry.'" The name fit the informal, hometown style of the show and it stuck.and it is in my hometown NASHVILLE TENNESSEE

What happen first the first broadcast of the grand ole opry world war 2 or the first Newport folk festival?

Definitely the first broadcast of the Grand Old Opry, which occurred in 1925, on Nashville radio station WSM. Radio was still new, and the idea of being able to sit in your home and listen to a live country music concert (with all the famous stars of that era) seemed amazing to most people. World War II began in the mid-1930s, and the first Newport Folk Festival began in 1959.

Who is JW Allen the dobro player?

J.W. is a musician in Nashville TN who's main instrument is the Dobro. He has performed with the likes of Bill Monroe. But he is mostly known for session work and being one third of the syco-billy combo known as "THE HILLBILLY TRIO". I know him personally as he played the wedding march on his Dobro at my wedding on the Grand OLe Opry stage in the Ryman back in 1991. He is a great guy and a great musician. Kenny Clark
