The people of Columbus' time had no understanding of what causes disease or how diseases are transmitted. As a result, Columbus could not have done anything to prevent the exchange of diseases between the Taino and Europeans.


Of course, if he had had modern knowledge of disease, there is a lot that could have been done. But he did not have that knowledge.

No Columbus did not help spread the diseases to the taino people it was a between the settlers and Hernan Cortez. He is the one who spread the smallpox, syphillis, and cholera.
