You can file a claim about hail damage so long as you 1). have comprehensive coverage and 2) are within the 'proof of loss' period, which varies by state.
In my state, you have to prove your insured loss within one year of it happening (and you get a bonus year for appeals), so really two years.
If the storm was longer than two years ago in my state and you didn't make the claim, then it would be denied.
