The information about the Yankees franchise came from the Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Yankees' website. The Baltimore Orioles weren't performing, so they sold the franchise to someone who moved them to New York and renamed them the Highlanders. The name then later changed to the Yankees.

∙ 16y agoTwenty Major League teams remain in the city in which they began (never moved)..although most have changed ball parks (stadiums) through the years: Ten Original teams: Boston Red Sox; New York Yankees; Philadelphia Phillies; Detroit Tigers; Chicago White Sox; Chicago Cubs; Cincinnati Reds; St. Louis Cardinals; Cleveland Indians; Pittsburgh Pirates Ten Expansion teams: New York Mets; Tampa Bay Rays; Florida Marlins; Houston Astros (Colt '45s); Kansas City Royals; San Diego Padres; Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim; Seattle Mariners; Arizona Diamondbacks; and Colorado Rockies. The other ten ML teams moved at least once. The Angels changed the name of their official location from Los Angeles to California to Anaheim to Los Angeles, but the only name change that corresponded with an actual move was changing the name from the Los Angeles Angels to the California Angels upon moving from Dodger Stadium to Anaheim Stadium in 1966. This 34 mile move was not considered moving the franchise.

This answer is not entirely correct. The franchise that is the Yankees originated in Baltimore as the original Orioles, then moved to New York.
