This is a common source of confusion as a colf front is what forms when coooler air pushes into warmer air. Tornadoes are often associated with cold fronts, but the front is not the direct cause. When a cold front moves through and there is enough instanility ahead of it, thunderstorms can form, but only when a number of other conditions are present can these storms produce tornadoes.
