  • Without any of the greenhouse gases that help keep the earth warm, global average temperatures would be some thirty degrees colder. Heat would be lost rapidly at night, making life on earth, as we know it, impossible. So greenhouse gases are necessary for human life and a comfortable existence.
  • Then there would be no global warming.
  • Geo-Climactic Stasis.

The world would be an ice planet.
Basically, we'd be very much like the moon. At night, we'd experience about

-200 C Temperatures, and in the day, we'd have about 500 C. Humans could not exist under such drastic temperature changes.

If we didn't have the greenhouse effect, the Earth's average surface temperature would fall way below freezing, and there will be a global ice age, therefore killing off most of the Earth's life forms.

Fortunately, the earth's natural carbon and water cycles mean that there are just enough greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide and water vapour) in the atmosphere to support the natural greenhouse effect which keeps the planet warm enough for life.

The earth would be 30 degrees colder on average and deathly cold after sundown. All life would cease to exist.

Is the fallowing sentence true or false the greenhouse effect is a natural process?

The greenhouse gases present in the earths atmosphere are both naturally produced and man made. The natural greenhouse gases (methane, water vapour, carbon dioxide) make the Earth warmer than it would be without the Greenhouse effect (this allows it to be habitable). The addition of man made greenhouse gases (methane, carbon dioxide and a few others) increases the temperature past the natural levels. SO the greenhouse effect is both natural and a result of human activities. If you consider the opposite of a "natural effect" to be a "supernatural effect" resulting from gods, devils or ghosts -the greenhouse effect is natural with no supernatural contribution.

Where in space does the greenhouse effect occur?

The greenhouse effect does not occur in space, it occurs within the Earth's atmosphere. Without the greenhouse effect, most living things would freeze to death.

What would be the effects of eliminating the greenhouse effect?

The earth would freeze. The normal greenhouse effect keeps the earth warm enough for life. The enhanced, or accelerated greenhouse effect is now causing global warming and climate change.

Why is it important for us to have a greenhouse effect on earth?

The greenhouse effect is what keeps the heat in after the light energy is converted to heat energy. If we did not have a greenhouse effect, life would no longer exist since the entire earth would be below freezing.

Is the Greenhouse effect necessary?

Yes, the greenhouse effect is necessary to keep the earth warm enough for life. Without the green house effect we would all be dead.

If there was no greenhouse effect would you burn or freeze?

You would freeze. The earth would be pretty well frozen over. The average surface temperature would be about -4 degrees Fahrenheit if there were no greenhouse effect.

What causes the greenhouse effect and how does it affect earths atmosphere?

The greenhouse effect is caused by greenhouse gases that absorb infrared rays and thereby keep the earth warmer than it otherwise would be. The greenhouse effect is important to life on earth. Without greenhouse gases, there would be global cooling and life as we know it would no longer be possible. With increased levels of greenhouse gases, there is global warming and undesirable climate change.

What effect would thick clouds cover have on the temperature on earths surface?

What is the process by which gases in the atmosphere absorb and reradiate heat?

Greenhouse Effect

What does the greenhouse effect maintain?

The greenhouse effect maintains temperature. Another word for a greenhouse is "hothouse." Without the greenhouse effect of our atmosphere, earth's surface would be more like that of the moon--baked during the day and cold at night. Just not quite as severe, as the lunar day is a month long.

How is the gardeners greenhouse a miniature version of the greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect is called that becouse the earth naturally acts like a greenhouse but with the gases (like CO2) going up into the air, the barrier around the earth that acts like a greenhouse, makes the barrier stronger and that makes the earth get more warmer. So...The more greenhouse gases we produce the warmer the earths temperture would be

What effect would thick cover have on the temperature of earths surface?

It would block out significant sunlight, lowering the temperature.

Without greenhouse gases would the Earth's surface be frozen over?

Yes-- without the Green House Effect, Earth's avg temperature would be 60 degrees F cooler, and our oceans would be frozen. You would freeze. The earth would be pretty well frozen over. The average surface temperature would be about -4 degrees Fahrenheit if there were no greenhouse effect.

What happens as a result of the greenhouse effect?

We stay warm and survive. The greenhouse effect works like this. We get light energy from the sun. When that light energy hits the earth's surface, it turns into heat energy. The earth then heats up the atmosphere and the "greenhouse gases" hold this heat in keeping us warm. If not for the greenhouse effect, the earth's temperature would be about -160o C.

How would an increase in carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere change the greenhouse effect?

It would make the greenhouse effect stronger.
