Is feeling nausea right after you brush your teeth a sign of pregnancy?

I don't know if it is a definite sign, but I have been feeling the same thing and I have a feeling I could very well be pregnant. When searching for this symptom, I have come across several message boards where women ask about being nauseous while brushing their teeth during pregnancy. So I think we may be onto something here. :)

Nausea associated with bowel movements is more commonly found in persons with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which is a functional disorder of the colon and typically associated with stressful conditions that be chronic in nature. While nausea under such conditions can also be associated with Chron's disease, the affected person has usually experienced other symptoms of the disease for some period of time. Unless you have Chron's, then the more likely cause is IBS. The nature of the bowel movements also tend to play a role in the presence of nausea, ie constipation or diarhhea in many cases. Nausea that initially accompanies pregnancies, more commonly known as morning sickness, most often occurs independent of functions such as evacuation (bowel movements) and contemporarily thought to occur as more of a defense mechanism to protect the fetus from possible contamination by a variety of pathogens. If you are not experiencing nausea at any other time, then it's unlikely to be the initial symptoms of pregnancy. If you're concerned whether you may be pregnant, you should speak with your primary care doctor, who wil most often have the lab perform a beta hCG test to confirm. Regardless, signs of nausea associated specifically with bowel movements should be evaluated further by your doctor or specialist. best regards, J Cottle, MD
