The perceived quality of RuneScape can vary greatly from person to person. As a Java-based browser game, it lacks the more advanced graphics of other MMORPGs like World of Warcraft. However, this allows it to be played on much lower-end computers.
General gameplay-wise, animation and movement is generally smooth, though it can stutter and slow down momentarily depending on your connection and CPU usage.
Activity-wise, it can get pretty dull. Increasing the levels in skills can take a maddeningly long time. Quests often involve inane puzzle solving and repetitious activities. The free quests can all be finished within two weeks, leaving you with little to do unless you purchase a membership.
The players are probably the worst aspect of RuneScape. There is little balance of activities - some people level only skills and neglect their combat level. Others, and perhaps the most annoying, train only combat skills, and sometimes only one comabt skill. These players then kill others (PKing) as their sole means of income. Players become extremely covetous, working long periods of time to save up money to buy a very simple but very rare item - a party hat.
