I'm a recovering addict and I have never encountered another substance abuser who could control their need for some sort of high. There are some exceptions.. Some addicts can go for days at a time and not consume that all. But, they have a name. We refer to them as binge addicts! They might not get high everyday, but when the opportunity arises is very hard for the addict to just say no. We suffer from a three fold disease :the mind, the body and a spirituality malady! not addict wants to be labeled addict or dope fiend because our society considers the addict weak as well as mentally disturbed. The first time one consumes drugs, he is an addict for life. There is No control of the mind and body need for stimulation.

Answer2: By the very term abuse means a person is already addicted in some way. A person can take drugs, legal or illegal and not become an addict. But once a person takes drugs to the point where the brain and body craves, needs, and depends on the drugs, that's the crossover to being an addict. I read an article that said, they used to be separately called drug abuse and drug addiction, but now the term is drug use disorder also called substance use or chemical use disorder. It's characterized by a destructive pattern of using a substance that leads to significant problems or distress.

Absolutely. You do not become physically addicted to marijuana, you just enjoy being high. So if you smoke it and like it you will want to do it again. You do not become addicted like many other much more dangerous drugs, like alcohol.

I believe it's possible, It just depends on how many times you have done the drug and how often you use. The drug you are taking also can make a difference, as some drugs are more addictive than others.

---

Are you addicted to paracetamol? a drug can be anything that alters your bodies natural activities from caffeine in coffee and most chocolate, to medical substances used to control heartt rate etc...

I assume you are referring to illegal drugs such as Cocaine, Acid, Heroine etc...?

If so it depends on the person and the drug, using drugs in moderation can sometimes be just as harmful as regular use as your body stores certain chemicals from them.

Once again we must look at the definition of your question, an addiction is a reliance on something to provide something... in the case of drugs a reliance on Cocaine for example, for escapism. This can be immediate, if somebody enjoys their experience and struggles to find it elsewhere then they are likely to return again and again to it without noticing any damage or even their own reliance.

In this way Marijuana can also be addictive, not chemically (your body will not come to rely on it) but mentally many people rely on the drug to feel sane in their days, they feel they have to smoke to get over self esteem and confidence issues, its all the same escapism loop, as with alcohol.

Returning to the question, of course its possible, but it relies on the persons strength of character and will power, because these drugs do powerful things to the mind.

Mothers who use cocaine or crack cocaine while pregnant put their unborn babies at risk for all kinds of birth defects and health problems. You can't snort crack. I mean, I suppose you could try. But that's not how people do it. Regular cocaine can be snorted OR smoked, but crack cocaine is only smoked. It was actually invented to be an easier-to-smoke form of cocaine.
