Irving, Texas is located in northeast Texas, about 10 miles northwest of Dallas. Founded in 1903 by railway employees J.O. Schulze and Otis Brown, the city is nestled along the scenic West Fork of the Trinity River and is home to the University of Dallas.

The trail system features two historic trails, California Crossing and Bird's Fort, which were traveled by General Sam Houston in 1843.
