I have one of the Western Field 38 and after some searching on the internet I found a sight with OLD mossberg catalogs on it. http://home.epix.net/~damguy/catalog.htm it looks like mine is a Mossberg Model 35 with No.3 Peep Sight and and the mulit post ramp sight. I think the No.3 peep was a lower cost option than the micro-click. Mossberg did in fact make that rifle for Montgomery Wards.

Where can i get parts for a ward western field 22 caliber model 36?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Ward Western rifles from what i have read online (and i have one i am looking for a magazine clip for also) were made for Montgomery Wards by various manufacturers of which one was Mossberg. Check out some old Mossberg models and see if it looks like one of them. I'd swear my Ward Western looks 90% like a Mossberg Model 144, especially when you put the action out of the stock, it is nearly dead on. I sent a pic into a Mossberg expert ( http://www.havlinsales.com ) who sells parts for old Mossbergs. Sorry, not much you can do for obscure 22's. Let me know if you ever find anything more for Wards Western 22's (post back here). My barrel is marked "70" i think. Where is yours marked "36"? Just found this after i posted it.

I have a Western Field Mo #36 D single shot 22. This rifle was made in the 1930s.It has been in my family since new.I am of the opinion it was a mossberg but i cant prove it.I am searching for a bolt for this one ! Any help is appreciated.thanks.

Can a scope be mounted on the western field model 175 20 gauge bolt action shotgun?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, it can- with the services of a gunsmith. The gun would need to be drilled and tapped, and a left side scope mount added. Frankly, that will cost more than the gun itself is worth. -- answer by C3 Shooter

How do you disassemble a Wards Western Field 31a Rifle?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There were 2 rifles that were marked 31A. Both were bolt action 22s made by Mossberg- the model 40 and model 44. For both: Open the bolt, insure rifle is empty. With the safety OFF, bolt open, press trigger to the rear and hold it. The bolt will slide out of the back of the action. Turn rifle over, and unscrew the single large screw at the underside of the stock. This will release the barrel and action from the stock. The 40 uses a tube magazine- turn the end, slide the inner magazine tube out of the outer magazine tube. The 44 uses a box magazine- press and hold the magazine catch, and withdraw the magazine. At this point, you should STOP taking things apart. This is enough to clean and lubricate the rifle.
