Why is The Sun so unpopular in Liverpool?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Sun newspaper is unpopular in Liverpool due to its reporting of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, where it falsely blamed Liverpool fans for the tragedy. This led to a long-standing boycott of the newspaper in the city as a sign of solidarity with the victims and their families.

How did the city Liverpool get its name?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The History of Liverpool can be traced back to 1190 when the place was known as 'Liuerpul', possibly meaning a pool or creek with muddy water. Other origins of the name have been suggested, including 'elverpool', a reference to the large number of eels in the Mersey, but the definitive origin is open to debate and is probably lost to history. A likely derivation is connected with the Welsh word "Llif" meaning a flood, often used as the proper name for the Atlantic Ocean, whilst "pool" is in general in place names in England derived from the late British or Welsh "Pwll" meaing variously, a pool, an inlet or a pit.

Who is better westham or Liverpool?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The obvious answer is tottenham! They always finish higher in the league than west ham and have won more silverware over the years!

Players like Gareth Bale would never even think about playing for west ham! so that just proves it!

The only cup west have have won in the last 20 years, yes you heard me right 20 YEARS!!! was the play off final! and that was only because they were so rubbish that they got relegated! Tottenham would never be in that situation as they are just too good!

Best soccer team?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

FC Barcelona would be the most entertaining soccer team.

With world-class players such as Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernadez, David Villa, etc., the football played by this team is referred to by many as "champagne football/soccer", due to their beautiful attacking and counter-attacking play.

This team can also easily be categorized as one of the best teams in the world and as well as one of the best teams in the history of "the beautiful game".

What year did liverpol win facup league cup and eufa cup?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Liverpool FC won the football league, European cup and the League Cup in 1984. They have also won the League Cup, FA Cup and Uefa Cup in the same year 2001. In 1977 Liverpool FC came close to winning the European Cup, football league and FA cup but they lost in the FA cup final to Manchester United. Ironically Manchester United won the equivalent of that treble in 1999 when they became European Cup, Premier League and FA cup winners. Manchester United also won a treble of trophies in 2008 when they became the first club to become champions of England, champions of Europe and world club champions in the same year.

Why is Liverpool so bad?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

As we can see, there are way too many questions about the club. Kenny Dalglish is right; there is a lot to be pleased about at Liverpool. The burden of debt has gone, the new owners seem to have their heart and head in the right place, the kids are doing well as was shown in the next gen series, shirt sponsorship deals are at record breaking levels, but the fact remains, a football club will always be judged by results and the league form has not been good enough. Changing the manager will not help necessarily but at the same time, pressure needs to be put on the current managerial and playing staff to get things right. Let us not forget that this is a club steeped in glory and now, with financial fair play coming in, it really is not the time to turn to mid table mediocrity. The positives are that the squad is still young and can improve; the irritating thing is no one is quite sure what needs to be done. As such, there are times where you have to be decisive and this is the case at Liverpool. As ever, nothing will ever surprise us in football, but be assured, there are some twists and turns to come.
