How is it that my engine cranks but will not turn over on my 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If it turns over but just doesn't start, it may be the CRANK POSITION SENSOR located next to the air conditioning compressor. Sometimes you just have to disconnect the electrical connection and re-connect and it may just work then you know that was your problem. It could be the FUEL PUMP also but sometimes they act up some before going out so there is some warning.

Starter keep on turning after the motor is runing?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Sounds like the starter solenoid is stuck. Another possibility is the ignition key switch is not automatically returning from the start to run position. As the switches get older they seem to get stiff. Could be a weak spring in the switch or just gummed up lubricant. The easy test is to try turning the key counter clockwise after starting the engine and see if the starter motor stops running.

Remove a radio from a 1996 Lincoln mark VIII?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer

YOU'LL NEED TO BUY A RADIO REMOVAL TOO. THAT'S JUST A SKINNY U-SHAPED ROD YOU INSERT INTO THE TWO HOLES ON EACH SIDE OF THE RADIO. IT COST BETWEEN 3 AND 5 DOLLARS AT ANY PARTS STORE. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PULL THE RADIO RIGHT OUT. IF IT DOESN'T COME LOOSE RIGHT AWAY YOU'LL HAVE TO USE SOME MORE FORCE. THERE'S THIS PLASTIC PART ON THE BACK THE HOLDS THE RADIO IN PLACE AND IT SLIDES ALONG ON A TRACK OVER THE RADIO. SO THAT MIGHT SIT A LITTLE TIGHT. I HAD TO PULL MINE OUT QUIET HARD AND WIGGLE IT A LITTLE TOO. AND WHEN YOU PUT IN A NEW RADIO YOU'LL HAVE TO ATTACH THE PLASTIC PIECE TO THE NEW RADIO WHICH IS NO BIG DEAL. GOOD LUCK THOMAS

make your own tool out of a coat hanger bend 2 in u shape so they fit in eack side of radio holes push in till you feel a bit of resistance and pull with both u shape tools wiggle back and forth the clips will release letting radio come out 1 inch then pull with hands until you can disconnect wiring harness and antennea

Where is the starter located on a 1993 Lincoln mark VIII?

THE STARTER IS ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR, ATTACHED TO THE ENGINE, ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, AHEAD OF THE TRANSMISSION. YOU CAN GET TO IT BY JACKING UP THE FRONT END (THEN SUPPORTING IT WITH JACK STANDS, NOT CINDER BLOCKS) AND CRAWLING UP BEHIND THE PASSENGER FRONT WHEEL. YOU WILL FIND THE TRANSMISSION AND TO THE RIGHT OF IT (OR LOOKING UP, THE LEFT) YOU WILL FIND IT. LOOK AT THE NEW ONE TO HELP IDENTIFY IT. THE STARTER WILL BE VERY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE. IF THE RATCHET DOES NOT FIT SNUGLY DO NOT USE IT, YOU WILL STRIP THE BOLT. IT MAY BE A 5/8'S WRENCH AS WAS WITH MY CAR. MAKE SURE YOU SPRAY IT WITH SOME BOLT REMOVER FIRST.

IF THE CAR HAS STARTING PROBLEMS, PERHAPS YOU SHOULD FIRST CONSIDER CHANGING THE SOLENOID. YOU CAN TEST IT FIRST, BUT THE SOLENOID IS ABOUT $12 TO $18 AND IS SIGNIFICANTLY CHEAPER AND EASIER TO CHANGE THAN THE STARTER. I ONLY SAY THIS BECAUSE THE STARTERS ARE USUALLY VERY DEPENDABLE. I HAD A 1988 TOWNCAR WITH 439000 ORIGINAL MILES, THE ONLY THING EVER CHANGED WAS A STARTER SOLENOID TUNE UP PARTS AND AN ALTERNATOR. THIS TEST WILL DETERMINE IF YOUR SOLENOID IS DEFECTIVE INSTEAD OF YOUR EXPENSIVE STARTER:

THE SOLENOID IS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FENDER CLOSE TO THE BATTERY. YOU NEED TO PLACE THE METAL OVER THE SOLENOID TERMINALS TO PASS IT WHILE SOMEONE IS ATTEMPTING TO CRANK. THERE WILL BE AN ARC SO USE CAUTION. DO NOT USE WITH AN OLD BATTERY NEARBY.

User Avatar

On modern Ford V8s, the cylinders are numbered 1-4 from front-to-back on the right (passenger) side of the engine, and 5-8 from front-to-back on the left (drivers side). That makes number 2 the second back from the front on the right (passenger) side of the engine.

How do you program the garage door opener in the visor of a 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer

Depends on the garage door opener you have. For the most part hold the button on the visor until it flashes fast, or slow, Just so you see the light change. Then hold the button on you garage door remote next to the visor until the light on the visor changes again. This should do it. Now if you have a rolling code garage door opener then you need to locate the learn button on the garage door opener motor. Press the learn button until it changes and then run to your car and press the visor button until you see the light on the garage motor hold steady. Good luck.
