Why does your guitar amp hum when you plug in guitar?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It could be a number of things, but fluorescent lighting in or near the room will cause what's called a "60Hz hum." If this is the case you could try to reverse the polarity on the 'Mains Plug'. i.e the AC mains leading to the step down transformer. Alternatively confirm the same by switching off circuits (Tubelights, television etc) one at a time, to see if this hum stops. Particularly if the hum stops when you switch of the television - have the TV repaired fopr faulty filter capacitor. If the hum is caused by earthing or neighbouring tubelights check the shield of the amplifier. The shield is supposed to be grounded to effectively eliminate the electric fields surrounding the same. If it's more like a buzzing sound, there may be a loose connection in either jack (the guitar's or the amp's) or the patch cable itself; there might be a poor solder somewhere; or you might just be picking up interference from a nearby electronic device. If it's really noticeable, you might consider taking the amplifier to a local repair shop and having them take a look at it. It could also be a poor ground, which will require re-wiring of the outlet or possibly the entire electrical system in that area of the building. Try plugging the amp into different outlets and see if the hum subsides; if it doesn't, it's likely an issue with the amp or the guitar themselves.

How do I fix stuck piano keys?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Good question. If it is stuck because you spilled water or something on it, turn it upside down and let it dry out. That usually works for me, but this time two keys remained stuck, and it was only water. The rest of the keys recovered.

A diagram of a bassoon?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Well, the flute is the highest instrument in the band. it can reach really high piches. it takes a lot of air to get a sound out of it. (i know, i play one). your mouth muscles have to be strong. your fingers have to move fast. there are many fun things you can do like sing while you play, you can do a thing called flutter toungue, and you can do both at the same time.

hi, this is another person... just wanted to say, this answer above^^, is mostly wrong. I am a first chair flute and a first chair picciloist. A piccilo is a smaller flute and is said to be an octive higher than a flute. I am in high school, Junior Year, and I know a lot about the flute. I take private lessons from a woman who has been in county bands, area bands, high school bands, orchestras, played during plays, solos in important concerts and much much more. SO, again, I know more than people do in my grade. Also, I just wanted to say, you cannot sing while playing the flute. It is physically impossible unless you stop playing and sing then play again. The flute IS NOT the highest instrument in the band. Piccilo is. So, then again, the person above, was wrong. is CAN reach high pitches when you really pinch your lips and push your bottom lip forward. your fingers do not have to move fast unless you want to play a song fast or just want to trill (*trill- move from one note to a note above it fast... if you use letters, it would be ababababababababab fast*). The flutter tongue is npt something you do. It may be a "nick-name" to the person above^but it is not what it's really called. It's really called, DOUBLE TOUNGING. hope THIS helps. =D have fun!!

Another person again, but the first answer was mainly right actually, apart from the piccolo part- that is the highest instrument, although a lot of the time it's not really seen as an instrument in its own right. You can sing and play the flute at the same time- very strange technique and I've never seen it in written music but i learnt to do it a few years ago- its more like humming to be honest- obviously you can't sing words, but you can sing a note through a flute and play a different note and get a chord which is quite nice. Being able to play fast is a definite advantage, as in orchestras, flutes tend to get very fiddly parts, but of course there's lots of slow music for flute aswell. Finally, flutter tonguing is very different to double tonguing- double tonguing is just like making a "tuhkuh" sound through the flute, and helps you to play very fast staccato sections, whereas flutter tonguing is like rolling your r's, although i can flutter tongue but not roll my r's, as i have a strange but very effective technique for it. But anyway, some new stuff, the flute has a range from middle c, to the fsharp 3 and a half octaves above- although written music that goes this high is fairly rare, and fingerings for the top half octave are relatively hard to find. It requires a huge amount of air to play, second only to the tuba, as only a quarter of the amount of air you breathe actually goes through it........ ohhh, and just tried this out, you can sing and flutter tongue at the same time and it sounds amazing! ^^thanks for the tip first answerer!

How do you hold a bassoon?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You play bassoon with your fingers, all of them, except for your right hand's ring finger. You blow into the bassoon through the reed, and you move your fingers to make the note change.

To make different notes that are not slurred (like above), you pulse your tongue back and forth against the reed.

Also, be sure to take long and deep breaths so that you can make a very full sound.

You play with all of your fingers including your right hand ring finger.

Going up: 3rd E flat, 1st F, 4th G, 3rd A flat, 1st B flat, 3rd C, 1st D, 3rd E flat. To go back down, you would just play the notes in opposite order (i.e. E flat, D, C, etc.).

How much would maintenance for a violin cost?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is very little maintenance needed for a violin: IF it is in good condition when you purchase, and IF it is taken care of as to storage and everyday handlling. Strings do not have to be replaced that often if you use high quality.

how clumsy are you? i mean i dont remember dropping my violin, i polish it after i use it, expensive (you dont need to but its better) rosin regularly. methylated spirits or something ive heard are good for cleaning if its really dirty but dont use it often. if you leave rosin dust on the strings and body then it can be absorbed and reduce the sound quality. but really it depends on how much youre bothered about your violin. if its cheap, fairly temporary and used for lower grades then does it really matter but if it cost thousands id be very careful!

Most strings should be changed once every 6 months depending on how much you play. If you make sure you wipe off excess rosin from strings and body of violin you will not need to polish it/clean it. Also i find tipping a bit of UNCOOKED rice into the f holes then turning them round and tipping them out again gets a lot of the dust out from inside your violin. YOu'd be surprised how much is in there.

You can clean your violin as well.

To clean the body of the instrument, you can use a soft cloth and a cleaner like pledge.

To clean the strings and the fingerboard you can use rubbing alcohol but be very very careful not to get this on the body of your instrument as it can damage it. Q-tips are usually best for this.

if you wipe your violin with a soft cloth before you put it away everytime it will help cut down on the build up you experience as well.

If you take care of your violin, the cost wouldn't be that much, maybe around $50-$60 for new strings and rosin. If you damage your violin though, it can cost way more. Depending on where the damage is and how extensive it is, the cost to repair it can vary.

What is the cost of replacing or repairing the action of a piano?

User Avatar

Asked by Ink890

Repairing or replacing the parts in the action can depend on several factors:

1. Is the piano a grand or upright piano?

2. What is the name of the piano?

3. What is the serial number (See related link)

4. To what level are you interested in repairing the action?

With that information, contact a piano restoration company and they will be able to determine an approximate cost.

What are the best nylon strings for a acoustic guitar?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you're used to nylon strings, you'll find at first that steel strings can hurt your left hand finger tips and if you're playing without a pick you might even tear off some skin of your thumb (you'll have to go at it pretty hard to actually hurt yourself like that, though).
Additionally, steel strings are much thinner, and without callused skin on your left hand it might not be possible for you to press them down all the way at first.

Once you're used to it, playing steel strings is no harder or easier than nylon.

How much would it cost to fix a few bent keys on an alto saxophone?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Of course, it depends on what's wrong with it. If it only needs a new pad, it shouldn't cost much, say $10 to $20. Bent or broken keys will cost more, and really messed up octave key mechanisms can cost lots more.

Parts of xylophone?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The three basic parts to a xylophone are the bars, the resonators, and the frame. The bars are made of wood (most commonly rosewood or padouk) or synthetic materials. This is the part of the instrument that is actually hit with a mallet to produce sound. The resonators are the tubes underneath each bar. These amplify the vibration of each bar and result in the sound we hear when the instrument is played. The frame is the rest of the instrument that includes the legs and base that the bars and resonators sit on.

What is the bassoons origanal name?

User Avatar

Well the bassoon has many names just like any instrument, and like many low-playing instruments, the bassoon in English has the word "bass" used in the name, but "bassoon" isn't the instruments first name. The first names of the bassoon were, Fag0tt, Fag0tt0, or Fag0t, depending on which language or region the printed music was made in.

What do you do if piano keys don't play?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Is this an acoustic piano, that requires no electronics? Or, an electic keyboard? The acoustic needs maintenance work. Loosen the mechanics, that type of thing. The wood might be warped. The electric needs a connection or something turned on. If it's a real piano, call a piano tuner, they do repairs. If it's electric in any way, you need either a shop that fixes keyboards or a new keyboard.
