First put the #1 piston all the way up in the cyl.Make sure your crank shaft timing mark is lined up.There's another timing mark on the left side as you look at the crank shaft on the other gear(intermeteate gear).It too must be lined up. Put your cam gears timing marks together with all the valves closed on #1 cyl.

TO TAKE THE RADIO OUT YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE FRAME OF THE FRONT, IT JUST SNAPES OUT,,PULL ON IT AND IT WILL COME OUT BE CAREFULL NOT TO USE ALOT OF PRESSURE,,THEN THERE ARE 3 SCREWS HOLDING THE RADIO IN,,PULL IT TOWARD YOU AND USE A PAIR OF PLIERS TO PULL OUT ANTANNA,,AND THE THERE IS A ELECTRIC PLUG IN THE BACK OF THE RADIO, U NEED TO LIFT OUT ON THE GREY PLASTIC CLIP AND THE PUSH UP ON THE WHITE ELECTRIC ASEMEMBLY WITH A SCREW DRIVER AND OUT IT COMES..I WOULD DISCONECT THE BATTERY FIRST,,i JUST DID IT THIS MORNING,,

either the ignition coil is bad or the crank for the camfhsaft position sensor is not touching the sensor i jsut had to do that to my car so check both of those

Regarding a model 1997,2 liter sonata, there is not an ignition control module as such. Ignition control comes from the ECM (ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT) through the Ignition Power Transistor (often called Igniter) and then to the Ignition coil.I do not have any information on the 1.8 or the 3.0 liter models.

If you have this code, then most likely you will have to replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM), but however you can replace this yourself but you have to take the vehicle back to the dealership so that they can program it correctly. (Vehicle will not run, and will need to be towed to dealership) Considering that the dealership is the only ones who apparently have access to the machine that programs the computer. What a bummer. I have zero personal expertise, but I have just gone through this with Fitzgerald Hyundai parts (Rockville, MD) this morning. They not only say similar but identical. They use and sell Dexron III ATF fluid as Type 3 power steering fluid. Two people there confirmed it.

Are you sure it is the electrical system that shuts off? I have a 2000 Sonata that stalls at any speed and even at idle. But it is not the electrical system as the radio continues to function. I have read that I should have a dealer look into replacing/rerouting the MAF (mass air flow) sensor-connector wiring harness. As of yet, I have not had this done... so the jury is still out on whether or not this is my problem.

I had a similar problem. My car would act like it was about to stall out while I was in the middle of driving but then would kick back into gear and keep going. I took it in and it was the input speed sensor.

I have a 2001 Sonata and this past week I have had an issue of the car stalling after driving for 15 minutes. It would stall out while I was driving. I took it in and the mechanic said it is a common problem with Sonata's that the wires under the dash become exposed and rattle against a metal bar. This causes the car to kick into safe mode and shuts down. Not sure if this helps.

The reason for this is that you want to replace all the fluid in the transmission and the torque converter at the same time. I'm a girl, and if I were you I would not critize my answer. I am currently going to school to for auto mechanics and im sp2 certified and all data certified. If I were you I'd go to a jiffy lube or something like that and ask.

All data is when they take your car and what not and type it all in and find things about your car its a certain program on computers, but i'd go to some place like that and look for all data certification in the window or something, they also have patches on their sleeves that indicate if they are all data certified or not.
