How do i fill the transmission fluid in a 2001 Honda Civic automatic?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You have to check in the actual transmission. Jack the car up (make sure it's level or you won't get an accurate reading) then take out the bolt on the back of the tranny and put your finger in it. It should be almost level with the hole, if not than add some. You can do this with a bucket of transmission fluid and a pump attached to hose...or, simply run a hose from the transmission fluid container to the transmission, hold the bottle above the car, so you'll need a long hose, and let gravity do the work. Once it starts to spill out a tiny bit, then you know your set and just put the bolt back.

How do you get a radio code for 2008 Honda Pilot?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The radio's serial number is necessary when you contact Honda (800 number or local dealer) and request the code number to that particular radio. I don't own a Pilot but I've heard that some Honda radios will display the radio's serial number when you hold down buttons 1 and 6 simultaneously and turn it on.

How do you replace the alternator on a 1994 Honda Civic?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Here are some few more steps, in addition to the previously mentioned steps, that could help you in your repalcement:

1. Open the hood and locate your vehicle's alternator.

2. Using your digital multi-meter, check the battery voltage. A dead battery will usually have less than 9 volts. This would not be enough power to start most vehicles.

3. To verify that your alternator is bad, make sure your battery is fully charged and can pass a load test.

4. With the good battery installed, connect your digital multi-meter across the battery terminals with the engine turned off. A good battery should read between 12-13 volts.

5. Start your engine and read the digital multi-meter's output. The voltage should rise near 13.5-14.5 volts.

6. Using an open end wrench, disconnect the battery's negative cable

7. Disconnect the power and ground wires on the back of the alternator paying close attention to where each wire connects. Disconnect the wiring harness connector.

8. Loosen the alternator bracket bolts, and alternator adjusting bolts or alternator belt tensioner so that you can remove the alternator drive belt.

9. Using the proper size socket and ratchet, remove the alternator mounting bolts, spacer (if equipped), adjusting bolt, lower pivot bolt (if equipped), and the alternator.

10. Install new alternator.

11. Using the proper size socket and ratchet, loosely install the alternator mounting bolts, spacer (if equipped), adjusting bolt and lower pivot bolt (if equipped).

12. Install the alternator belt.

13. Pull the alternator until the alternator belt is tight.

14. Tighten the alternator mounting bolts while gently moving the alternator unit to achieve proper alternator belt tension.

15. Reinstall the power and ground wires to alternator. Install the wiring harness connector.

16. Push down in the middle of the alternator belt to check belt tension. If the alternator belt moves more than a half an inch, it is too loose, adjust the alternator belt to proper tension before proceeding to next step.

17. Now that the alternator belt has been installed and adjusted, reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check the battery voltage to verify proper alternator charging.

18. Turn off the engine and recheck the alternator belt tension. Readjust the alternator belt tension if needed.

Disconnect the battery. Then unplug the alternator and take the belts off. Unbolt it. Put a new one back on. Bolt it in. Put belts back on. Plug it back in. Reconnect the battery. Viola! Replaced alternator.

How to replace an alternator in a 1997 Honda civic?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

you must lift up the civic with the driver side tire off then u gotta get the axle loose u might need to remove the whole left side suspention to free up the axle then u gotta get the alternator loose and remove it and then reverse.

/ The alternator can be removed by lifting front of car and driver side suspention lowered so that tire is just touching, then the alternator will have clearance to slide by driver side axle from under vehicle without removing any suspention. My son and I just did this so it should work on yours. (Aug 21, 2008)

Why does the engine temperature rise when the car idles?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Engine temperature rising when the engine is idling is normal. The car is sitting still and no air is entering the engine compartment. This will cause the engine temperature to rise. The cooling fans then come on and the engine returns to a normal temperature. Unless the cooling fans do not bring the temperature down, you have no problems and this is totally normal.

Why does a 98 Volvo s70 blow the fan motor fuse?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If there is nothing else on the circuit it's a good indicator that the fan motor is failing and probably has worn bearings. Worn bearings will cause an electric motor to pull more current and often blow a fuse. ==Additional Input== The purpose of a fuse it to protect the wiring circuit which it serves from excess current flow, which could severely damage the circuit conductors [wires], OR WORSE, CAUSE A FIRE!!! When a fuse "blows," or burns out, it indicates that there was an OVERLOAD on that circuit, and it did it's job by opening up the circuit. A blown fuse should NOT BE replaced, UNTIL someone has troubleshot the circuit, identified the cause of the overload, and corrected the defect. There are three most probable causes for fuse fuse failure: [1] A short circuit between the "hot" supply wire and ground [bare or cut wire in contact with a bare and sharp metal edge], [2] A defective fuse [which is highly unlikely] [3] Something which causes a "drag" on the blower motor which causes it to draw more current[amps], so much extra, that it excedes the current [amps] rating of the fuse. When the fuse is unable to carry the excess current, it fails by blowing. There are many things which could cause the drag: [1] As described by the previous answer, worn bearings would slow the motor and fan rotation, or [2] A buildup of trash [leaves, candy wrappers, etc.] in the plenum chamber around and in contact with the squirrel cage blower blades]. There may be another, or two, causes I can't think of right now. To fix this problem, you must determine what is causing the excess current demand, and remove/correct the defect. This could include: [1] Repair of wiring involved in a short circuit, [2] Clean out of debris blocking/dragging the fan, [3] Or as a last resort, replacement of the fan motor itself. Hope this helps you to understand and correct the problem. Good luck.
