Why does the boy with the birthmark in the novel Lord of the Flies want to speak?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The boy with the birthmark wants to speak because he is holding the conch, a symbol of authority and the right to speak during their meetings. In the novel "Lord of the Flies", the conch represents order and civilization, so the boy with the birthmark is trying to assert his right to address the group.

In the lord of the flies what question does the littlun with the birthmark raise?

User Avatar

He raise fear for evryone!!! not sure though. He tells every1 to fear the beastie =) he is a symbol of doubt and fear because then every1 thinks there is something out there

Another answer: In the text of the book the littlun with the mulberry coloured birthmark on his face raises two question. He asks what the boys intend to do about the snake-thing and also asks will it return the coming night. Symbolically he raises other issues, such as why didn't anyone even know what his name was and why was the exact number of boys never determined?

Why did nobody bother to find out his name? The very fact that he had a mulberry coloured birthmark meant that he was noticed but nobody asked him for his name. Perhaps the fact that he had a birthmark somehow lessened his importance to the other boys, his disability somehow made him invisible. I suppose that he is an example of societies atitude towards disability.

EDIT

Actually, none of the littluns are named throughout the book because of their lack of importance. The significance of the mulberry birthmark was so that the boy was noticeable, rather than ignored. The distinguishable birthmark is what makes Piggy notice that the young boy has gone missing after the first fire which they fail to control - he's killed in the fire and therefore the first character death, followed by Simon and Piggy.

Can you not have a birthmark?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is more common to not have one.

Not true: Most people have some sort of mark on their bodies at birth, but most fade/ disappear totally in the early months/ years of life. Many people have faint pink birthmarks on their heads or back of the neck ("stork marks") which generally are covered by their hair, and are, therefore, not very noticeable.

The majority of Asian babies (probably 70%+), and often those with some Asian ancestry, are born with blue or purple marks on the base of the spine or the buttocks (the so-called "Mongolian mark"), most of which fade/ disappear early in life... but not always.

It is true that "classic" brown, black or red/ purple birthmarks are less common: many medical authorities estimate about 10% of most populations bear such marks.

Finally, most people have at least 20 smaller marks ("moles") on their bodies, although most of these emerge later in life (often at puberty), and, therefore, are not technically "birthmarks".

IMO, most people do have some sort of birthmark; many, however, either fade rapidly in early life or are not very visible. Also, many people are very self-conscious about their birthmarks, and spend huge amounts of time and energy covering them up.

How rare is an eye birthmark?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It's not rare at all - the head, especially the back of it and the neck, is one of the most common locations of birthmarks. Many people have pink/ reddish or purple birthmarks on the back of the head.

So-called "Salmon patches"/ "Stork marks" frequently occur on the foreheads and/ or around the eyes of newborns - most fade and disappear in the first few years of life.

Can you dye a birthmark on your hair?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, you can. I know a few people with birthmarks in their hair. One friend has blonde hair and has a patch of dark brown hair, the other has dark blonde hair with a patch of grey. And I have a really small patch of hair that grows coarse black hair, I have dark brown hair and this patch is much thicker than the rest of my hair. Think it's pretty cool though. It grows insanely fast too.

What does it mean when you have a birth mark on the back of your head?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It means there's a birthmark. IMO, to think there's any meaning behind it is as absurd as that lady who tried selling a ten year-old grilled cheese sandwich on Ebay for $10,000 because she thought she saw an image of the Virgin Mary on the bread.

What does it mean if you have a birth mark on your leg?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes.

A choroidal nevus is the name given to a spot, freckle or mole that appears inside the eye or on the eye's surface. Sometimes detected during a dilated eye examination, these pigmented spots are usually flat and slate-greyish in color. Choroidal nevi are commonly found in the choroid, a blood vessel-rich layer lying between the retina and the sclera. Although they are not necessarily a "normal" finding in our eyes, they are quite common and may not represent anything wrong with the eye.

What does a pentagram shaped birthmark mean?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The star's symbolism is radically altered depending on whether its facing up or down. A downward facing pentagram was though to mimic a rams head and was though to be a sign of the devil. In Celtic lore the Pentagram was thought to be a symbol of protection and balance.

The symbol, originally at least, was used by Pythagoreans in Ancient Greece. It was a symbol of health and membership. Also, inverted pentagrams contain within them normal pentagrams and vice versa, so also a yin yang element from the West is symbolized. Neither of these traits is probably what people who get tattooed with a pentagram have in mind.

i aim to get a pentagram on my hand as a symbol of our Divine origin and our unity. The universe may be inside a dodecahedron, which means each side is a pentagon, containing a pentagram. the pentagram is also filled with golden ratio relationships, and so symbolizes the UNITY of Existence more than most may be aware.
