Why is there a candy named after Babe Ruth?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The generally accepted answer is that it was named for President Grover Cleveland's daughter, Ruth. It was probably not, despite what people often suggest, named after Babe Ruth. ---- IN FACT:

1Although the name of the candy bar sounds nearly identical to the name of the famous baseball player Babe Ruth, the Curtiss Candy Company has traditionally claimed that it was named after President Grover Cleveland's daughter, Ruth Cleveland. Nonetheless, the bar first appeared in 1920, as Babe Ruth's fame was on the rise and long after Cleveland had left the White House and 16 years after his daughter had died. Moreover, the company had failed to negotiate an endorsement deal with Ruth, and many saw the company's story about the origin of the name of the bar as merely a way to avoid having to pay the baseball player any royalties. Ironically, Curtiss successfully shut down a rival bar that was approved by, and named for, Ruth, on the grounds that the names were too similar in the case of George H. Ruth Candy Co. v. Curtiss Candy Co, 49 F.2d 1033 (1931). 1Wikipedia: The Free Encyclopedia, Baby Ruth, 2008 retrieved from http://www.wikipedia.com August 2008.

What is the value of a 1935 edition of Babe Ruth's Big Book of Baseball?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

it depends on the condition, but from all accounts if you are hoping it's a million then take a breath because it isn't. Near mint issues of this are going for about $200, but average value are going for about $65 to $80 bucks. I have one myself and it is way to cool a book to part with for this amount of money. Good luck with it.

What is the value of a 1925 gold Babe Ruth baseball card?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A 1992 Babe Ruth 1914-1935 Gold Entertainment card #5 has a book value of about $2.00 in near/mint -mint condition. Professionally graded cards will sell for more. Condition is important.

Common flaws with baseball cards include: rounded edges, creases, off centered, and faded color. Any or all flaws will devalue the card significantly. The value of this card along with the other 4 cards from the set are as the original answer states above. As a sports card dealer I have sold both raw and graded versions of this card and the others from this set. I sold 2 cards from this set on eBay back in 2007 which were graded by PSA, each received a grade of a PSA 8 NM-Mt and bidding was fierce for a card which is thought not to have widespread awareness. The results of the sales for each card exceed $27. The raw issues sell between $1.00 each and $ 15 for the set on average. The added value of the graded version is directly linked to the cards Hologram Foil which most often has flaws and/or shows wear which the card has endured. With that said the ability to grade these cards with PSA and acheive a PSA 10 or PSA 9 is highly unlikely. The current PSA Population report for the cards are as follows: * Card #1 - BABE RUTH 1914-1919 RED SOX PITCHER - Has had only 2 cards acheive a grade of a PSA 9 Mint with none having been graded higher. * Card #2 - BABE RUTH LOU GEHRIG CAREER STATS - Has had only 2 cards acheive a grade of a PSA 9 Mint with none having been graded higher. * Card #3 - BABE RUTH THE CALLED SHOT - Has had only 2 cards acheive a grade of a PSA 9 Mint with none having been graded higher. * Card #4 - BABE RUTH ROGER MARIS 61 IN 61-60 IN 27 - Has had only 1 card acheive a grade of a PSA 9 Mint with none having been graded higher. * Card #5 - BABE RUTH 1914-1935 - Has had 2 cards acheive a grade of a PSA 9 Mint with 1 card having been graded a PSA 10. If a PSA 8 can realize a sales price of nearly $30 then considering the rarity and difficulty of obtaining a PSA 10, the value is surely headed upward and probably is dependant on what the buyer is willing to pay for the seemingly most perfect example of a card. An example of this is about 6 weeks ago on eBay a 1986-87 Fleer #57 Michael Jordan Rookie Card Graded by BVG as Pristine and 1 of 2 cards to acheive such a grade sold at $150,000.00. About $145,500 more than the average PSA 10 Sells for. Now that's true love of the hobby!

How much is a ticket stub worth from the 1974 game when Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's record?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The ticket stub from the game that Hank Aaron hit home run number 714 at Cincinnati on April 4, 1974 is worth about $145.

The ticket stub from the game that Hank Aaron hit home run number 715 in Atlanta on April 8, 1974 is worth about $300

Condition is important. Rips, crease, and fading could bring the price down significantly. With ticket stubs if the stub was not torn cleanly it will effect the price as well.

What is the value of a Hall of fame 1936 Babe Ruth baseball?

I take it by "Hall of Fame 1936 Babe Ruth Baseball" you mean a Baseball signed by Babe Ruth when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1936, or a "Hall of Fame Babe Ruth Baseball" issued recently as a collectible to commemorate Babe Ruth's Hall of Fame induction. Big Difference.

If the baseball is a commemorate Babe Ruth's Hall of Fame baseball celebrating his induction into the Hall of Fame it would only be worth about $5.-$15. More of a novelty than a collectible. If the baseball is signed, and dated "1936" by Babe Ruth it will have higher value than a baseball signed by the Babe without the added inscription. Any inscription in reference to the Hall of Fame will add further value.

One of the most prized signatures in the hobby a Babe Ruth single signed baseball in general is worth about $6,000.-$10,000. Value may vary based on condition, and the type of authenticity that accompanies the signature.

A baseball in poor condition with a weak signature could sell in the $4,000. price range or less, and a minty baseball with a strong signature could sell in the $15,000 price range or more. The strength of the authenticity that accompanies the signature will hold the key to getting full value.

What is the value of a souvenir baseball signed by Babe Ruth in 1926?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Baseballs featuring the genuine autograph of Babe Ruth are highly sought by collectors and potentially very valuable. Unfortunately, they are also very often forged. Presuming authenticity, values can range dramatically. Key factors are: the placement and clarity of Ruth's signature (the bigger and bolder, the better), the type of ball (is it an "Official American League" ball?), and the all-important overall condition of the ball and signature. The provenance; the who, what, when and where of a signed ball's history, may also add value if it's documented. If genuine, your ball would be worth $1500 to as much as $7500, depending on all the aforementioned factors. An absolutely pristine signed Ruth ball could be worth $10,000-12,000. With autographs, a picture is truly worth the proverbial thousand words, and can save alotta time in the authentication, appraisal, and selling process.

Babe Ruth Single Signed BaseballOne of the most prized signatures in the hobby a Babe Ruth single signed baseball in general is worth about $6,000.-$10,000. Value may vary based on condition, and the type of authenticity that accompanies the signature. The type of baseball will also effect the price with an Official American league baseball from Ruth's playing days being of the most value.

A baseball in poor condition with a weak signature could sell in the $4,000. price range or less, and a minty baseball with a strong signature could sell in the $15,000 price range or more. But with all said the strength of the authenticity that accompanies the signature will hold the bulk of the value.

A signature with the quotation marks around "Babe" typifies his pre-1928 autograph will sell at a higher value as well. To show that the baseball was signed in 1926 the baseball might have to have been dated by the Babe. This would be considered a inscription, and sell for more.

If the signature is not properly authenticated the baseball could sell at half the market value or less. For more information and a sample of a Babe Ruth signature visit the link I left below. This is a great Babe Ruth Lou Gehrig signed baseball that sold for about $25,000. Babe Ruth Replicas

A modern day Stamped signature baseball like the Babe Ruth 100 Anniversary commemorative baseball 1895 - 1995 is worth about $5.-$10. in near/mint condition in it's original box. The Official sized baseball features a Babe Ruth facsimile (stamped ) signature, and a short bio.

The 1937 Sinclair Oil Babe Ruth Contest baseball featuring a "secretarial signature" of Babe Ruth, with the original box is worth about $600.-$800. Condition of the ball, the signature, and the box being a major factor on value. A near/mint baseball with box could sell for more.

The contest run by the Sinclair oil company was a weekly essay contest promoted on the company's radio program. Among the prizes that were awarded, was a Babe Ruth Autographed baseball, all of which have been signed by a "ghost" signer otherwise known as a Secretarial signature. There were 500 signed Official National League Ford Frick baseballs given away to the winners.

Secretarial Signature - An autograph of a celebrity that is actually done by his or her secretary, an other assistant or even a spouse. Sports celebrities are bombarded by requests for autographs. Most don't have the time to answer all of the requests, so some have their secretaries do the signatures.

Which is worth more a Babe Ruth rookie card or Honus Wagner baseball card?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The famous "Gretzky T206 Honus Wagner" baseball card sold for $2.8 million in September of 2007. This was the highest price paid for the card. Wayne Gretzky and Bruce McNall bought the T206 Honus Wagner card in 1991 for $451,000., and sold it for $500,000. in 1995. At the time there were fewer known examples of the card. The "Gretzky T206 Honus Wagner baseball card" most likely has a higher value because of it's past owner, and I would not include the value of this card with the rest of the T206 Honus Wagner cards on the market. Other T206 Honus Wagner cards have recently sold in the $200,000. -$400,000. price range. A 1914 Babe Ruth rookie baseball card, just the tenth card of its kind to be discovered sold at auction on May 5, 2008 for the price of $517,000. The card was produced by the Baltimore Sun Newspaper. In an auction held in 2007 the Babe Ruth Baltimore News card sold for $200,000. I would put the famous "Gretzky T206 Honus Wagner" baseball card alone at the top as the most valuable, and the 1914 Babe Ruth rookie baseball card second with the "other" T206 Honus Wagner cards a close third.

What is the value of a Babe Ruth model bat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In general a Babe Ruth store model bat could be worth between $200. -$500. Besides condition there are many factors that will effect the price more or less. Baseball bats closest to the players size and model number that was used during his playing days will sell at a higher price. Decal bats are very desirable and could sell in the $1,000.'s

The dating of the bat is one of the most important factors on value along with condition. Hillerich & Bradsby Co. Louisville Slugger has used different oval center brands in their history. By identifying the center label, trade marks, and patens you can narrow down the year to what era the bat was made.

For example: a bat made between 1916 - 1929 will have HILLERERICH & BRADSBY Co in the center label as opposed to J.F. HILLERERICH & SON Co as the bats made before. TRADE MARK REG US PAT OFF appears below the oval and changed to TRADE MARK REG in 1930.

"Bone Rubbed" is a process to harden the surface of the bat and appears on bats made in the 1920s The "Powerized"process was first used, and patented by the Hillerich & Bradsby Co. in 1931 and has pat. pending beneath the stamp. Powerized and Bone Rubbed" logo is used during the 1932 season. In 1933 and 1934 you will see it stamped "Powerized and Oil Tempered" which usually is a very light heat foil type print. in 1935 until present, they go with just "Powerized"

During the 1980's Louisville Slugger issued these replicas of Babe Ruth's last style bat, and stamped 1935 on the knob. The majority of these were sold through a mail order company called J. Petterman and listed at around $100. Yes. The same J. Petterman catalogue featured on the television comedy series Seinfeld. These replica bats sell for about $55.-$125, on eBay.
