Who is the oldest person ever to be alive?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

As of 02/02/2013 it's Japan's Jiroemon Kimura at 115 years, born April 19th, 1897

It should be at least mentioned (since he was mentioned in previous answers), there was Nasir Al Hazry from the United Arab Emirates, who (in 2008) claimed to be 135 years old, but apparently there were no birth records to back up his claim. The article from 2008 that can be found online even suggests his own family didn't know how old he claimed to be. (How could your own family not know your age?)

He'd of course be 139/140 in 2013 but there doesn't seem to be any information available about him after the 2008 article, so most likely he's a fraud.

The oldest documented person (sorry Nasir & you too Methuselah) to have ever lived was Jeanne Calment from France (February 21, 1875 to August 4th 1997), who lived 122 years 164 days.

How may the degradation of telomeres result in cellular aging?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The degradation of telomeres, which are the protective caps at the ends of chromosomes, results in cellular aging because each time a cell divides, a small portion of the telomere is lost. As telomeres shorten, it eventually reaches a critical length that triggers cell senescence or programmed cell death. This leads to a reduction in the cell's ability to divide and function properly, contributing to the overall aging of tissues and organs.

What 2 examples of diffusion occurring in the human body and explain why they represent diffusion and what substances are involve and how it benefits the body?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

One example of diffusion in the human body is the movement of oxygen from the lungs into the bloodstream. Oxygen molecules move from an area of high concentration (lungs) to an area of low concentration (bloodstream) through the respiratory membrane. This benefits the body by replenishing oxygen levels in the blood, which is essential for cellular respiration.

Another example is the diffusion of glucose from the bloodstream into the cells. Glucose molecules move from an area of high concentration (bloodstream) to an area of low concentration (cells) through the cell membrane. This benefits the body by providing energy for cellular functions and metabolism.

What kind of gas is in titan's atmosphere?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The atmosphere of Titan is largely composed of nitrogen; minor components lead to the formation of methane and ethane clouds and nitrogen-rich organic smog. The climate including wind and rain creates surface features similar to those of Earth, such as sand dunes, rivers, lakes and seas (probably of liquid methane or ethane) and shorelines, and, like on Earth, is dominated by seasonal weather patterns. With its liquids (both surface and subsurface) and robust nitrogen atmosphere, Titan is viewed as analogous to the early Earth, although at a much lower temperature.
