The modern day MLB record is held by Hall of Famer Ted Williams who reached base in 16 consecutive plate appearances in 1957. He got six hits, was walked 9 times, and hit by a pitch once.

In 1990, Ryne Sandberg set a major league record with 123 consecutive games at second base without committing an error. While Sandberg's mark still stands as the National League record, in 2007 the Detroit Tigers' Placido Polanco took the Major League record. Polanco finished the 2007 season with 188 consecutive errorless games, dating back to July 1, 2006.
