The first three NBA players to do it officialy were: Dr J (Julios Erving) Michael Jordan Brent Barry
Michael Jordan dunked from the free throw line, because everyone else told him it was impossible. This then made MJ more determined to do it, so he could prove everyone else wrong. In 1988, Jordan went against Domonique Wilkins to win the ultimate title of the All-Star Slam Dunk Contest. Both scoring 6 perfect scores, the final tiebreaker saw Wilkins scoring a modest 45 points. Then just before Jordan's turn, he decided to dunk from the free throw line, after having some advice from Dr. J, the man who started it all. As Jordan ran up from the end of the court, he jumped from the free throw line and dunked the ball through the net, getting yet another perfect score and taking home the title of the All-Star Slam Dunk Contest.
