That stat is tough to authenticate because of the poor way statistics were kept in the early days of MLB, prior to 1920 in the days of the 'Dead Ball Era'. Joe Sewell had 3 Ks in 503 at bats for the New York Yankees in 1932. He also had 4 Ks in 608 at bats for the Cleveland Indians in 1925, 4 Ks in 578 at bats for the Indians in 1929, and 4 Ks in 524 at bats for the Yankees in 1933, 6 Ks in 578 at bats for the Indians in 1926, and 7 Ks in 569 at bats for the Indians in 1927. For his career, Sewell struckout out 114 times in 7132 at bats, the lowest strikeout/at bats ratio in the history of MLB (1 strikeout every 62.6 at bats). Charlie Hollocher had 5 Ks in 592 at bats for the 1922 Chicago Cubs. Stuffy McInnis had 5 Ks in 537 at bats for the 1922 Cleveland Indians and 6 Ks in 581 at bats for the 1924 Boston Braves. Tris Speaker had 8 Ks in 523 at bats for the 1927 Washington Senators. Lloyd Waner had 8 Ks in 500 at bats for the 1933 Pittsburgh Pirates. For players that played after 1950, Nellie Fox of the Athletics, White Sox, and Astros was the toughest to strikeout. For his career (1947-1965) he struckout 216 times in 9232 at bats for a ratio of 1 strikeout every 42.7 at bats. His best seasons were 1958 with 11 Ks in 623 at bats and 1951 with 11 Ks in 604 at bats (both for the White Sox).

For a batter with at least 500 at bats in a season, the fewest is 3 by Hall of Famer Joe Sewell for the New York Yankees in 1932. He had 503 official at bats that season and only struckout 3 times.

That would be Hall of Famer Joe Sewell, a third baseman and shortstop for the Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees from 1920-1933. In 7,132 at bats he struck out 114 times. His ratio of 1 strikeout every 62.56 at bats is the best ever of anyone that played in MLB.
