He was initially cut from his High School Basketball team. He was passed over as the first or even second pick in his draft. He was widely criticized as a selfish scorer who could not win the big one after his first few seasons in the NBA. Conjecture, but probably like many of us, he was somewhat introverted and shy among girls while in grade school where he did not have the benefit of being a big star. While he won't admit it, he had to get by the corner of the eye staring of racists who stereotyped him as just another young black kid coming up in the 1970's.
