The longest game in American professional baseball history was started on April 18, 1981 between the Pawtucket Red Sox, a triple A minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, and the Rochester Red Wings who were a triple A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The future Hall of Famers were Wade Boggs for Pawtucket and Cal Ripken Jr. for Rochester. Hall of Famers Henry Aaron of the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves and Willie McCovey of the San Francisco Giants are two of the most famous baseball players to wear the number. In fact, the two Mobile, Alabama natives tied for the 1963 National League home run lead with 44 each. Aaron won two other N.L. home run titles with 44 in 1957 and 44 in 1966.
Although John McGraw went into the Hall of Fame as a manager, he was a pretty good ballplayer ending up his career with a .334 batting average. He had 1309 career base hits and 13 career home runs for a average of 1 home run every 100.7 base hits. Of the Hall of Famers that had 3000 base hits, only two hit less than 100 home runs. Cap Anson had 3418 base hits and 97 home runs for an average of 1 home run every 35.2 base hits and Rod Carew had 3053 base hits and 92 home runs for an average of 1 home run every 33.2 base hits.
