Staccato is a style in which the notes are played shorter than the written value. There is a slight 'time gap' between the playing of each note. It is usually denoted by a dot above or below the note.

Staccatto is a musical term. When a note is staccatto is it played cut off and separate from the next note. In contrast, when notes are designated legato, they are played smoothly without a break in between.

One way to visualize the difference is to picture someone using their hands to conduct three notes: To conduct three notes that are staccatto, you would stab the air three times, indicating that each note is separate, almost sharp. To conduct three legato notes, you would wave your hand in the air smoothly indicating that the three notes are connected in sound.

Short and snappy movements- almost robotic and jagged!

It means to play lightly or jumping-like. You may want to search for a piece that has staccato in it and listen to what it sounds like. =)
