1980 was the time where cell phones actually became widely available. They were somewhat bulky, kind of like a brick. The 1980 cell phones allowed 30 minutes of call time and took 10 hours to charge. People don't realize how lucky we are today.
cell phones were invented in the 20th century around the 80s. they were big and bulky people didn't start really using them until the 90s. Since then cell phones have been very well updated and made smaller with more memory and a camera.
None, everyone who needed mobile communications used radios instead. CB (citizen's band) and short range radios were the most common. Most people in the 70's only had landlines. Cell phones as we know them didn't really appear until the 80s, and even then, they were huge and bulky.

There were portable mobile phones, usually referred to as car phones, in the late '70s or early '80s, but only the super-rich had them. Modern mobile phones started becoming affordable and popular during the 1990s.
