Short answer: ten bucks at least

Long answer: I quit four years ago, and I was paying 9.00 CDN$ per pack of 20 Belmont Milds in a corner store or drugstore. Belmonts would be considered a premium brand. There are cheaper brands like Peter Jackson which many people smoke because they are a dollar or two cheaper per pack. American cigarettes are much more expensive in Canada than the States. You will probably pay $12 or more for a pack of 20 Marlboros, for example.

This website has what seems to be accurate pricing for cartons in the different Canadian Provinces over the last 10 years. Keep in mind that those are prices for cartons of 200, or ten packs of 20 cigarettes and you will save some money buying them that way. They list $93.35 for a carton of 10 packs, or $9.34 per package in BC in March 2012. They will be more than that at any store if purchased by the individual package, probably $10 at least and up to $13 at the airport, for example. Don't buy smokes (or anything) at the airport. Prices are much higher than what they are in the city.

I just researched this because I have a widget that keeps track of how much money I've saved since I quit four years ago and it amounts to $21,461 (!) over the last four years taking into account the price increases since I quit. I was a pack-and-a-half a day smoker, costing me $5000 a year. Crazy. I'm glad I quit, but I know it's really hard to do from experience . If I could just have the occasional cigarette I would still love to smoke but I have an addictive personality and can't seem to control it. I understand fully the appeal of smoking, but as I got older I started to be more concerned with my health.

Smoking is outlawed in all public places including patios and outdoor seating areas in Vancouver, making it tricky to find anywhere you can even enjoy a cigarette in peace. I would recommend buying cigarettes duty-free on your way to Canada. I have a friend who smokes and he always gets me to buy cigarettes whenever I go to the US because they are so much cheaper duty-free. Hope this helps.

The price of cigarettes vary from province to province. In Ontario a good pack of cigarettes could cost anywhere from $7 to $13. You can get the discount brands for less than $7 anywhere from 4.50 - 6.50 but these are garbage and i would rather stay away from them. If you smoke more than half a pack a day i would recommend buying by cartons (Costco by far has the cheapest). Cartons usually go for anywhere from 45 - 80$ and you will be saving anywhere from 20 - 45$.
