A fifth of scotch is one fifth of a gallon, which contains 128 ounces, so a fifth of scotch contains 25.6 ounces per bottle. A normal shot is 1.5 ounces. Therefore, there are 17.07 shots in a fifth of scotch.

A "fifth" is a fifth of a gallon. Since a gallon is 128 fluid ounces, a fifth is 128/5, or 25.6 fluid ounces.

I'm not sure anyone still uses actual fifth bottles, though; I think nowadays they're mainly 750 ml bottles, which works out to a little over 25.3 fluid ounces.

It depends on whether you are using a 1 or 2 ounce shot glass, divide that into the number of ounces in a fifth.

A fifth relates to percentage of a gallon, roughly, so that's about 25 ounces or 25 standard shots.
