∙ 9y agoActive listening is listening attentively and responding to another person. It improves mutual understanding and is the basis of true communication. It often involves restating in your own words what the other person says in order to be sure you are understanding what was meant.
Inactive listening is just hearing the person. You may be distracted, not paying close attention, thinking about something else while the person is talking, etc.
