cut out the infected area using a dermal tool but be carefull not to let the sparks hit the liner of the pool it would be best if the pool was drained of water and hold the liner back and put a towal in front of the liner while someone else cuts out the rusted area then get a peice of sheet metal bigger then the hole to put over the hole you will have to drill holes 2" apart in the sheet metal and the pool wall making sure they line up then get the same amount round headed nuts as holes makeing sure the round head is on the inside also put some silcone on the cut out areas and on the scews to prevent rust again spray paint would also help the best sheet metal to get would be either stainless steel or aluminuim both will not rust you can get both of them at your local hardware store or homedepot and lowes that should fix the rust in the side of your pool for a good long time

I am sure it depends on the size of the hole, but my wife's uncle fixed his. What he did was cut out the rusted partof the hole. The he got another piece of similar metal that the pool is made of then he cut it be several inches bigger that the hole. He then placed the metal piece on the inside of the pool then riveted it together with several rivets. He then came back and sprayed the area with a similar (as close as he could get in color) rust proof paint couple coats. He did this though before he opened the pool so he could partial undo the liner to get to both sides. He also coated the rivets with some good Duct Tape so that there wasnt any chance of them rubbing the liner. I hope this helps you goood luck.

1. Drain the pool.

2. Polish off all of the rust with sandpaper (or any other polishing tools you like), don't leave even a speck of rust.

3. Glue on a new metal plate over the hole, using a powerful, waterproof glue (goop would work for any material you are using, or silicone caulking compound for steel, but not for zinc plated steel which silicone doesn't stick to, or copper) and let it dry (one day). This can also be done with a thick piece of plastic, in which case the glue has to be goop (or Gorilla Glue, which is similar to goop).

4. Paint over the new metal plate with an enamel paint - we don't want the new plate also to rust! And make sure there are no unpainted or rusting spots in the pool wall. Polish and repaint. Never paint over rust.

5. Refill the pool, have fun!

You can cut a new piece of metal to size, with the appropriately-sized hole for the skimmer, and replace the rusted metal with the new piece.

Your regular cover won't heat the pool, it will hold the heat, but it will not heat it up. You need a solar blanket if you are looking for something to warm your pool.
