Generally when you have a period, it is because you failed to fertilize the egg during your fertile week. Usually the fertile week is a week or a week and a half before you start your period. A lot of women who are trying to get pregnant actually keep track of ovulation so that they can have sex effectively. So... theoretically... towards the end of your period and a few days after your period... you aught not have an egg to fertilize for another week and a half to two weeks.Now the issue here is.... You have been on birth control for a long time, and your eggs might be dropping from both ovaries and at different times... so while your hormones are saying "Hey ovary number 1 dropped and egg a whole week ago and it isn't fertilized... time for a period" Ovary number 2 could be on a different schedule and decide that it would be a nice time to ovulate.
