duhhhh, rain is water? But even so most pools have an over flow and also it would take a massive amount of water to overflow most pools. Kinda the same reason your bath tub would overflow if you did not turn off the water. Thimk about it.

If you dont get a lot of rubush falling in the pool and you have a automatic pool cleaner just let nature take its coarse it will evaporate until it is back at the right water level, On the other hand if you have a floating pool skimmer you dont have to wory about it at all. If it is imperative that your fixed skimmer works just lose the water by backwashing or runing to waste until its at the right level.

Swimming Pools are usually designed with skimming in mind For example most large public pools have wet deck skimming where the water runs back to filtration from the surface into a grate lining the edge of the pool. these pools have balance tanks and are always full from top to bottom. the average backyard pool however only has a small fixed skimmer or 2, for these to work properly the water has to be kept at the correct level unless a floating pool skimmer has been installed. If it has you can let the water go as high as you like without loosing surface skimming.

OF course they can unless they have overflow drains built in.After all they are just large vessels and will only hold a certain amount.

It's not harmful, but definitely not good. Make sure the pool is level before trying to swim.
