Natural selection is the difference in reproductive success between variants. Organisms will always have a bit less or more success in gathering food, hunting, finding mates, producing offspring, etc, than siblings with slightly different traits. So whether or not they actively fight for the same resources or mates, competition takes place.

The environment is the '' natural selector. ''

What importance does overproducion play in Charles Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection?

There are more animals alive than can possibly live, so they compete and struggle for survival. The more of that kind of stress there is on a species, the more natural selection will come into play and filter them into smaller numbers of those most able.

Which form of natural selection is most likely to play a role in speciation?

Disruptive Selection

Meiosis plays an important role in the process of natural selection, as it allows DNA to replicate.

What is the the role of natural selection in evolution and what roles does it play in environmental science?

Natural selection is the changing of organisms gradually over time. Natural selection and evolution are parts of environmental science due to them being the studies of organisms.

What part did adaptation play in Darwin's thinking?

It played an important role, since he used William Paley's Natural Theology to test his naturalistic theory of how adaptations could have been accomplished through the perfecting action of natural selection working on random variations.

What role does the environment play on natural selection?

Nature plays no direct role in artificial selection. That is the difference between artificial selection and natural selection. Nature does play some indirect roles in artificial selection. One indirect role is in providing the organisms with which one beings the artificial selection. Another is in influencing the choices of the organism performing the artificial selection.

What role do alleles play in natural selection?

Genes are the medium by which inherited traits are passed on to offspring. It is inherited traits, and thus genes, that receive positive or negative selection.

How do humans affect artificial selection?

Humans directly affect artificial selection. They do this by selecting the specific traits that they prefer which they cannot don in a natural selection.

Why and how is over production important to natural selection?

Overproduction leads to more animals competing for the same amount of food, etc. This is where natural selection comes into play and those who are better adapted are more likely to survive and reproduce. Overtime this leads those with the beneficial traits to survive and the others to gradually die off...
