In the 1986 movie Crossroads, which starred Ralph Macchio, his blues guitar solos were played by Ry Cooder. Macchio,s classical guitar solos were apparently played by classical guitarist Arlen Roth. Steve Vai played his own guitar solos in Crossroads.

Steve Vai played most of both parts in the climactic "head cutting" duel except for the blues riffs which were supplied by Ry Cooder.
