Pedal Harp
There are many different sizes and styles of harp. Typically the larger ones, like in a symphony orchestra, do have pedals while smaller ones do not. The pedals facilitate a wider range of notes than what you could get without them.
There are around forty-six (46) strings on the harp, depending on what type it is and seven (7) pedals.
They typically have 6 to 7 strings but this can depend on the instrument.

A harp has one string for each note of the diatonic scale. The pedals allow you to do sharps and flats. So, you need one pedal for each note, (C,D,E,F,G,A,B). The mechanism works on all octaves at once, so moving the C pedal to the sharp position makes all the C strings sharp.
7 Pedals
The StringsThe harp has a set of strings of varying length, tension, and density. My large pedal harp has 47 strings. These strings correspond to the white keys on a piano. The black keys are not represented! (Their sounds are made by changing the pedals.) The strings corresponding to C are colored red, and the Fs are black or blue. All the other strings are white. The harp is tuned by adjusting the tension on each string (using a tuning key that turns a pin going through the neck) until the string's pitch matches the desired pitch.

A kinnor had 10 strings, not more, not less. They were made of sheep's intestines. The Nevel, a similar instrument, had 12 strings-again, not more, not less. Some people say that the Kinnor had 7 strings, but that wasn't true, at least not by the time of the second temple. And anyone who thinks that the Nevel had 15 strings clearly can't read Hebrew.
"Concert" harps have 47 strings and 7 pedals. The most common wood to be used in making a pedal harp is maple. The soundboard is usually made of spruce but cedar and douglas fir have been used as well. The mechanism of the harp is metal and very complex. A pedal harp has 2000 parts to it and 1500 of them move. The strings are a combination of nylon, gut and metal. Sometimes a synthetic string is used known as a carbon string or KF string.
