Actually, no you don't need to be 21. I was 25 when I got the Essure procedure done and I had no kids. it took me a couple of different doctors to find one that WOULD do the occlusion, but I got it done. Again, you do not have to be 21. Different docs have different ways of thinking. It's very insulting to me as a woman to have someone tell me that I'll regret my decision to never have children. I had several doctors tell me that. I just kept looking until I found one that would sterilize me without having had children. There are docs out there who will do it. Just keep calling until you find one.
I'm 23, and I have three kids (my tubes are tied). When i was pregnant with my twins and already had a 1 year old, I asked the obgyn if i could have my tubes tied. They just told me to talk it over with my husband and go over some paperwork. That day i signed the papers to give them permission to go ahead and do the procedure while i had my c-section....there were no problems... You dont have to be a certain age, just as long as YOU know you really want to do it and youre not going to want anymore kids. Most doctors will listen to want YOU want, and if not see someone that will. I thought you had to have 3 kids or be 25 years old. It may differ in certain states. I was in Texas when I had my tibes tied. I was also 25 and just had my 3rd kid. There are not laws in any of the 50 US states that pertain to when or what form of Birth Control a woman chooses to use whether it is surgical, pharmaceutical or otherwise. The exception would be a minor (someone under 18) who might in some states need parental permission for surgical procedures.
Women who most likely have more than 3 children and who permanently don't want anymore pregnancies. Usually there in there 30s.
In most states, you have to be age 21 to undergo this procedure.

A tubal ligation can be performed at most any age, but without parental consent, it could not be done until one attains the age of 18. How many kids one had before the tubal ligation has no consequence, nor matters.
