Well to be proper, I must first include that rock 'n' roll received its roots from blues and jazz. Rock has influenced tons of music today because other forms of music (including offshoots of rock) derive from it. For example, you have "rockabilly" which was Bill Haley and the Comets. "Rock Around the Clock." This is one of the first moments in rock history. Later bands showed up on the scene, like The Beatles, the Animals, the Stones, etc. (I'm not saying these bands were absolutely influenced by Bill Haley, it may have just been coincidence) But then you start getting into psychedelic rock of the late 60s. These included fuzzy guitar riffs and lyrics you'd have to be on acid to write. And arguably, the late 60s/ early 70s began the roots of heavy metal. I won't even go into all the offshoots of metal, there's so many... (Progressive, thrash, speed) And from there you see the roots of punk rock in the 70s, New wave in the 80s, Arena rock and hair metal later in the decade, grunge of the 90s, and then the period between popuarity of Ska and Emo. Now this is just a brief history, but to answer your question, none of these bands after previous bands would be around, or be unique in their own way if not had been influenced. Metallica loved Lynyrd Skynyrd, KoRn loves Metallica, some future band, maybe undiscovered will idolize KoRn and the cycle will continue. But don't just think about this in terms of rock, other genres, including rap, pop, and blues even have been influenced by the changing styles of rock. Just maybe research that. Good luck
